I have been very interested in Sidney Poitier lately. In his movies and in his life. He is a remarkable man. I am glad I am able to state that in the present tense because who knows how much longer we can do that since he is 84 now?
I am in the middle of his book, "The Measure of a Man" and find myself in such admiration of him. He is not a perfect person by any means, but he is a good and decent human being by all I can see. A strong, insightful, articulate person who has overcome a lot in his life. Many people have to deal with adversity in some form or another, so he is an inspiration to me even though my adversities will not be the same as his.
The characters he played in "A Patch of Blue" and "To Sir with Love" were very attractive to me and got me interested in reading his spiritual autobiography.
I am looking forward to seeing many more of his 30+ movies.
